MISHIBESHU by Ayla BOUVETTE, Metis Artist
 (see info below image)
Anishnabe Legend MISHIBESHU by Ayla BOUVETTE
This painting depicts Mishibeshu (spelled & pronounced in many ways). This is the Underwater Lynx whose back is said to be coverd with Copper Scales, he has a long tail and white fur. There are many Ojibwe Legends about him, in this painting he has stolen a Native American Child and taken her to a cave along the shore of Lake Superior. Many Native American Legends are told of this creature, and his 2 water snake companions. I often go to the water's edge and toss in 4 copper pennies and ask for understanding and wonder why I am so drawn to this Native American Spirit Creature.
