I did this painting as I was exploring what it meant to be of Mixed European and Native American Heritage, which is often referred to as Metis, especially if one's heritage comes from the Plains and Fur Trade era. I have long since concluded that I am Native, Native to North America, the descendant of my Native Grandmothers, aboriginal, First Nation... and that comes first, before Metis for me. But Metis is the "label" I carry as an Artist for the sake of Clarity and to honor that part of  my Native Heritage.
